Terms

These are the terms you agree to when you send us a photograph or buy a pack. They are written to be read once, in a few minutes, by somebody who is not a lawyer.

Where a term is unusual, it is unusual in your favour, and it is the refund.

What you are buying

A repair of the damage in a photograph you send us, delivered as a file. You are not buying a print, a frame, or the return of the object itself. Nothing physical changes hands in either direction.

A pack is a number of photographs, paid once. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

The free repair

One photograph, repaired, with no card. What you see on the page carries our mark across it; the file underneath is clean, and buying the single photograph or a pack is what takes the mark off.

We cap how many free repairs run in a day and how many one address may start. That is what keeps the free repair free, and it is the only reason anything here is rate-limited.

What you have to be entitled to send

By sending a photograph you are telling us you are entitled to have it repaired — you took it, you inherited it, or the person who did is content.

Do not send anything unlawful, and do not send photographs of somebody else that they would object to your handing over. We do not police what arrives, and we will refuse and refund anything that is obviously either.

Your photographs stay yours

You keep every right in the photograph you send and in the repair we return. We claim nothing in either.

What you give us is narrow permission to do the job: to hold the file, to make the copy the repair needs, to make the repair, and to give it back — for as long as the retention window runs, and for nothing else.

We will not publish your photograph or show it to anybody. If we ever want to use one as an example, we will ask, and no is a complete answer with no consequence.

What we promise, and what we cannot promise

We promise to repair the damage and to change nothing else — no cropping, no straightening, no coloring a black-and-white photograph, and nothing done to a face that was not damage.

We tell you plainly that the repair invents. Where the damage destroyed part of a photograph outright, the gap is filled with what plausibly fits rather than left empty, and that includes a missing face. We ask it not to, in the instructions sent with every photograph, and it fills the gap anyway. What arrives in a destroyed area is our invention and not a record of anything.

We do not mark the invented areas on the file and we cannot list them for you. Compare the repair with the scan you sent, which is the only reliable way to see where the damage ran.

We cannot promise a particular result. Some photographs come back nearly whole and some come back part repaired and part invented, and which one yours is depends on what survived. That is exactly why the first repair is free.

The repaired file may not match your original's dimensions exactly. What you get is what the repair produced, at the size it produced it.

The refund

If it does not look like the person you remember, you do not pay. Write to us within thirty days and we return what you paid, for the whole order, without an argument.

You keep the files. We do not ask for them back and we could not take them back if we wanted to.

Delivery, and how long you have

Most orders finish within minutes. If something fails at our end we will run it again by hand or refund it, and your payment is safe in the meantime.

Collect your photographs within thirty days of an order being finished, or seven days of a free repair. After that they are deleted and cannot be recovered — not by you and not by us.

When we can stop

We can refuse or stop an order that is unlawful or that is plainly an attempt to abuse the free repair. Where we refuse an order you have paid for, we refund it.

What we are liable for

If we let you down, our liability is limited to refunding what you paid us. That is a real limit and it is the honest one for a service at this price.

We do not accept liability for the loss of the original photograph or the file on your own machine, because we never had either. Keep your scan. Nothing here should ever be the only copy of anything.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer.

Changes, and the law

We can change these terms for future orders. The version that applies to your order is the one on the site when you placed it, and the date at the bottom of this page is when these words last moved.

The law that governs an order and the courts that hear a dispute are those of the country the business is registered in, which is named on the imprint page.

If a term here would stop you sending us a photograph, write and say so. We would rather change a sentence than lose the photograph.
